The increasing complexity of modern SAP system landscapes presents a challenge not to be underestimated, both in daily SAP operations and in the event of changes caused by project activities. The interdependencies between individual technologies and applications and the central role they play in providing business processes create an interwoven structure. Knowledge of how this structure is built and fits together as well as how to maintain and enhance it makes the difference between a stable foundation for generating business value added and a fragile house of cards kept intact only with a great deal of effort.
Since 1995 we have been helping international industrial enterprises establish global solutions based on SAP software products, and have built up and expanded our multidisciplinary know-how in over 1,000 implementation, rollout, upgrade, and consolidation projects with more than 300 customers.
IT in general (and not just in the SAP world) faces the ambivalent task of reducing costs by consolidating and standardizing software while at the same time safeguarding the degree of flexibility required to adapt company structures and processes rapidly.
Outsourcing companies also have to face this dilemma and therefore tend to lean primarily toward applications with standardized processes. This makes operating costs calculable, but also presents the following risks:
Selective outtasking can present a wise alternative here. In this approach, the systems remain at the customer location and are monitored, maintained, and supported remotely. Outtasking is therefore also a suitable interim solution when bringing outsourced activities back in-house and vice versa. With greater transparency, integration, and flexibility as well as fewer dependencies and clearly calculable costs, the result is increased customer transparency and satisfaction.
