SAP BTP Fiori – All You Need to Know about SAP BTP Fiori

The user experience or interface of any website is pretty crucial to get the highly-desired first impression from the clientele. And the same goes for an application as well.

But here’s the thing.

There are probably millions of different apps with unique interfaces available out there. So, it might be a little difficult for you to brainstorm a new idea out of nowhere and implement it.

And you can do it in two ways –

● Check out the designs created by apps similar to your creation.

● Use SAP Fiori to create your application’s customized UI.

Honestly, I don’t have much to say about the first option. However, I feel you need to know a little more about the second one before you can start using it.

So, let’s do that first.

Introducing… SAP Fiori

SAP Fiori is a type of design language that’s created by SAP to bring about excellent UX and UI to your organizational applications. Yes, you’ve guessed it right.

You can create new business tools with a consumer-grade user experience. And, you don’t need to have a steep knowledge of coding or web designing to do that either.

If appropriately used, SAP Fiori can –

● Improve your user base’s satisfaction and boost your data quality and productivity.

● Scale and adapt app development quickly by using UI rapidness and flexibility.

● Allow you to work from anywhere with responsive web and mobile apps.

The best thing about SAP Fiori is that it doesn’t require massive expenses to work correctly. And, thanks to the ease of usage, you won’t have to put too much effort into it too. Accessing the application is pretty simple too (use the SAP Fiori launchpad to do it).

Services offered by SAP Fiori

As of now, SAP Fiori offers three different types of services. These are –

1. Lifecycle Management Services.

As the name implies, these services offer different packages to transport and upgrade SAP Fiori content. However, they need to be cloud-ready on your part.

2. Configuration And Runtime Services.

This set of services is required to run and configure the SAP Fiori launchpad and apps. It’ll also allow you to define groups, catalogues, and roles. You may also make multiple launchpads using these services to enable personalization and navigation.

3. Development Services.

These offerings can enable a developer to build and extend the SAP Fiori apps. Among the available options, SAP Business Application Studio is the most crucial tool you might need to use here.

SAP Fiori – Landscape And Architecture

SAP Fiori comes with various different architectural options that can improve your working experience to some extent. But, in this section, I’m going to discuss only two of them, as they are more important and commonly used than others. So, let’s begin.

1. Internal Access Point.

Many businesses feel a little apprehensive about putting their business data into a cloud system. Yet, you’ll find them to be extremely keen to reap the benefits of SAP Fiori. So, if you’re one of them, the Internal Access Point architecture can be your saviour.

This architectural pattern ensures that your data never prominently reaches the cloud. Instead, it keeps them separate and enables you to access the launchpad and other resources from the SAP Fiori Cloud.

The SAP Web Dispatcher plays a huge role in this architectural process. It determines where a source of data must be routed or transferred. However, this procedure usually doesn’t work smoothly on mobile as long as it’s not connected to an internal network.

2. External Access Point.

As you can understand from the name, this architectural style tends to expose business data as well as the SAP Fiori apps to the web. Hence, both an internal user as well as an external one can access the launchpad, the accessed UI, and SAPUI5 library through it.

In this case, the OData services are routed through SAP BTP. Hence, you don’t really have to use the SAP Web Dispatcher to reroute the data.

Design principles of SAP Fiori

As of now, five different design principles are available for SAP Fiori UI5. The models are more inclined towards making SAP Fiori a little simpler and easier than usual.

● Role-Based: SAP has decomposed and simplified various SAP-related transactions and altered them into beautiful-looking user interactive applications. It, in turn, makes them show only the relevant information and answers to the users.

● Coherent: SAP has provided all of the Fiori-related apps based on the same language. So, it doesn’t matter whether you’re using a specific deployment and platform setting or not.

● Adaptive: SAP Fiori enable users to work how and where they want, regardless of the device used. With robustness of SAP HANA, it offer good response time for instant insight.

● Simple: To ensure that SAP Fiori is simple enough to match the user demand, SAP has formulated it as a 1-1-3 scenario. It refers to – 1 use case, 1 user, and 3 screens.

● Delightful: SAP Fiori was created to work with ECC 6.0. Hence, it’s become simpler and easier for the users to deploy the designed UI on the existing SAP environment.

Types Of Apps Available In SAP Fiori

The applications available in SAP Fiori are divided into three different categories. Let’s keep reading to know more about them –

Type – 1: Transactional Apps.

As the name implies, transactional apps are used to perform various… well, transactional tasks, like travel or leave requests. These apps run perfectly on the SAP HANA database.

But, it can be deployed with any other database with decent performance.

Type – 2: Fact Sheets.

The fact sheets are generally used to drill the contextual and key information in corporational operations. It can enable you to navigate to transactional apps to develop and run SAP-related transactions as well. However, unlike the former, this one only runs on the HANA database.

Type – 3: Analytical Apps.

Analytical apps are all about offering real-time information regarding business operations. They tend to have the power to integrate SAP business suite with SAP HANA.

Using these apps, you can monitor key performance indicators closely and do proper calculations and aggregations.

The Bottom Line

Using SAP Fiori might seem simple and easy for most people on the front side. However, the setting up process can sometimes be pretty challenging for anyone. Thus, if you are having some trouble with it, it might be better for you to opt for someone knowledgeable.

Good luck!
