S4/HANA Pre-Study

The first step towards S/4HANA

All SAP customers face the same challenges. While some have already made the move, others have yet to take the first steps toward S/4HANA. Use the momentum from your S/4HANA transition to make additional steps toward digitization.

All those facing this step are asking themselves how, when and to what extent they are willing to make the change? What changes and potentials can and should be implemented during the S/4HANA transition.

Customer Challenges

Overwhelming S/4HANA Project

The complexity of the S/4 project seems to be hardly manageable. Too many options and alternatives to chose from.

IT and Business Alignment

Different drivers and needs in business and IT cause friction, inefficiency and a slowdown of projects.

Uncertainty of S/4 Benefits

Building a clear business case with tangible benefits can be hard to identify without business involvement from day one.

Define the best Timing

External and internal factors influence the project. Appropriate planning and implementation is complex and difficult.

Missing internal Workforce & Expertise

Additional efforts can hardly be carried internally. There is a lack of concrete S/4 experience.

The preconditions for SAP S/4HANA are the same, but the road for change is fundamentally different. While one SAP customer may place their S/4 program as the central focus of business and IT transformation, another may have to be minimally invasive when steering their S/4 program into an existing roadmap. These customers also have a multitude of other strategic initiatives that should be considered during the S/4 Transition in order to help achieve their goals.

With the multitude of possible S/4 changes, SAP creates a high level of expectation on the customer side – both on the business and IT. However, this also raises the question of how much change the company wants to push through as well as how much it can withstand.

The multitude of possible S/4 innovations raises expectations on the customer side, but also concerns about how much change the company can tolerate.

S/4HANA Pre-Study

With the cbs S/4HANA Pre-Study, we work out the most sensible S/4HANA transition path together with you. Based on our methods and experience, we neutrally evaluate whether a new implementation (greenfield), a conversion (brownfield), or the Selective Data Transition approach is the right one for you.

Strategy Workshop

We start the cbs S/4HANA Pre-Study with a strategy workshop to work through basic elements with management, which lead to a high-level roadmap with an initial assessment. Strategic elements are taken into account as well as organizational or process-related aspects in order to get an overall view in a short time. The strategy workshop is the foundation and defines the scope of the S/4HANA project.

Topics covered:

  • C-Level Targets and Pain Points
  • Top Down Strategy Fit
  • Process Reengineering Necessity (Structures / Processes / Master Data)
  • Process-/Application Mapping
  • Governance Organization (Business & IT)
  • SAP S/4HANA Relevance (Must-Do´s / Should-Do´s / Could-Do´s)
  • Digital E2E Architecture Strategy (S/4 & Satellites / Digital Innovations)
  • Risk and Change Management Valuation
  • System- & Application Architecture & Maturity
  • Deployment Strategy (On Premise vs. Cloud / Playground / Reference Model)
  • Transition Approach (Green / Brown / Selective Transition; Big Bang or Wave based)
  • Program Plan Indication
  • Next Steps / Checklist

cbs S4/HANA Readiness Check

With its various elements, the cbs S/4HANA Readiness Check provides a thorough system analysis that goes far beyond the SAP standard. In addition to S/4HANA-relevant content, this technical analysis also provides information about harmonization potential or master data quality, which is collected with the cbs MDV (Master Data Validation). Process mining can also reveal valuable insights for correcting or improving processes.

Solution Concept & Roadmap

In the next step, we work with the process owners from business and IT to develop the target picture for processes / functions / standardization / optimization per business unit. We use the findings of the strategy workshop and the technical information from the readiness check to fix the target picture and provide an S/4HANA transition roadmap.

Implementation Program

By bringing together business and IT and aligning them with the strategic corporate goals, we achieve a consolidated roadmap tailored to the needs of the company. This includes preliminary and optimization projects with corresponding cost estimates and risk/benefit considerations. We additionally record the results in requirements management, which defines the concrete action instructions for preliminary projects for our customers.
