Motul’s Digital Transformation: Elevating Process Excellence with SAP Signavio and cbs Corporate Business Solutions
Motul, a global leader in high-performance lubricants founded in 1853, has continually embraced innovation to meet the diverse needs of the Asia Pacific region. With operations spanning bustling cities and remote areas, Motul Singapore spearheads efforts to ensure product accessibility and operational agility across regional markets.
Motul Asia Pacific embarked on a digital transformation to enhance efficiency, standardise workflows, and prepare for a critical migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA as part of its strategic growth. In partnership with cbs Corporate Business Solutions, Motul adopted an SAP Signavio-based approach to gain actionable insights, streamline processes, and ensure readiness for future growth.
Key Challenges
Motul’s regional operations faced several interconnected challenges that hindered performance and decision-making, including:
- Limited visibility into process execution, which obscured inefficiencies and delayed decision-making across entities.
- Complex regional operations and a lack of collaborative insights, make it challenging to harmonise processes and ensure consistency.
- The need for an analytical solution to identify improvement opportunities, address bottlenecks, and create a prioritised roadmap for transforming Motul’s diverse operations into a streamlined and unified workflow.
Comprehensive cbs Process Improvement Strategy
To address these challenges, cbs implemented a two-phase process improvement strategy leveraging the SAP Signavio toolset – to optimise Motul’s business processes while establishing a solid foundation for its forthcoming transition to SAP S/4HANA.
Phase 1: Rapid Analysis with Plug and Gain
Data from SAP ECC systems was analysed to identify inefficiencies across five key processes: Finance, Lead to Cash, Source to Pay, Plan to Fulfill, and Acquire to Decommission. Using SAP Signavio Process Insights, operations were benchmarked against industry standards, revealing over 190 bottlenecks and improvement areas across 46 process flows.
Additionally, more than 132 performance indicators were assessed to streamline business processes. These insights were then leveraged to create a tailored roadmap addressing critical challenges.
Phase 2: Process Optimisation and Collaboration
Value identification workshops were conducted across Motul’s five entities – China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. Using SAP Best Practice models, As-Is processes were re-engineered to align with industry standards. SAP Signavio Process Intelligence provided insights into Motul’s process execution, visualising 27 end-to-end workflows across all entities.
With SAP Signavio Process Manager, over 90 SAP Best Practice reference models were leveraged to refine business processes, while the SAP Signavio Collaboration Hub centralised process information and enhanced cross-regional collaboration.
Benefits and Key Outcomes
By leveraging cbs Process Improvement strategy and rapid analysis with the SAP Plug and Gain approach, Motul achieved several transformative outcomes:
- Standardised workflows across regional entities, reducing operational bottlenecks and improving efficiency.
- Data-driven insights from the SAP Signavio tools enabled Motul’s leadership to make quicker, well-informed decisions.
- Enhanced operational excellence, ensuring better alignment with customer expectations and a more streamlined operation.
- SAP S/4HANA readiness, establishing a strong foundation for scalability, digital integration, and future growth.
With cbs tailored process improvement strategy, Motul has significantly improved efficiency and established a robust foundation for long-term success in the competitive Asia-Pacific market. By aligning processes with industry best practices and embracing a data-driven approach, Motul is now well-positioned for future growth.
