SAP S/4HANA Digital Transformation with Southern Lion

Southern Lion’s Digital Transformation: Faster Approvals and Smarter Finance

Southern Lion, a Malaysian household and personal care company founded in 1987 as part of a joint venture between Lion Corporation Japan and Lam Soon (M) Sdn Bhd. It combines more than 100 years of Lion Japan experience with local manufacturing and market knowledge.

The company makes and markets trusted brands in fabric, beauty, and oral care including TOP, Dobi, Shokubutsu, Systema and Kodomo.

Modernising the business without disruption

As Southern Lion prepared for its transition to SAP S/4HANA, the company faced the challenge of modernising its business while maintaining uninterrupted operations. Its ageing SAP ECC environment offered limited scalability and restricted innovation, while critical historical data needed to be preserved throughout the migration. At the same time, manual processes and limited automation were impacting efficiency, creating the need for more intelligent and streamlined ways of working. The business also sought to introduce new capabilities, including Quality Management (QM), Transportation Management (TM), and Project System (PS), without disrupting day-to-day operations or business continuity.

Transforming for the Future with a Smart S/4HANA Approach

Project Horizon demonstrates how Southern Lion successfully modernised its SAP landscape without starting from scratch. By adopting a Smart Brownfield approach, the company preserved its critical historical data and proven business processes while enhancing key areas for greater efficiency and innovation. Today, Southern Lion operates on SAP S/4HANA RISE, supported by new business modules, AI-driven automation and streamlined processes. The transformation has reduced manual effort, improved cost and margin visibility, and established a scalable digital foundation ready to support future growth.
