Finance as driver of the largest SAP business transformation in the manufacturing industry
Singapore, December 14, 2021 – SCHOTT AG, global market leader for specialty glass (16,500 employees, 2.2 billion euros in annual sales, headquarter in Mainz, Germany), has successfully implemented a new digital platform for the future. The entire SCHOTT organization and its business processes worldwide were affected. The Finance & Controlling department was the driver of this comprehensive business transformation. With the help of cbs, the technology group succeeded in a strategic corporate project and an SAP S/4HANA pioneering achievement that sets standards in terms of size, complexity, degree of innovation and rapid value creation. The conversion was carried out in a minimally invasive manner during a strong phase of economic growth.
In the big-bang go-live, more than 26 sales companies and 43 production sites across 34 countries were migrated to SAP S/4HANA. A total of 84 company codes, 6,300 tables and more than 12 billion data records had to be transferred. The selective data transformation took place over a weekend in near-zero downtime, i.e. without any downtime of the operational systems. The proven standard cbs ET Enterprise Transformer software was used.
The global player SCHOTT has set the next lighthouse in the international SAP market.
“We are very proud of what we have achieved and are delighted with the great feedback from our customer. I am particularly grateful to our standard software development. The cbs ET has proven to be probably the strongest transformation software for complex projects in the manufacturing industry. In any case, we see it as the reference solution for finance-driven S/4HANA business transformations in the market,” emphasizes cbs Managing Director Holger Scheel.
In April 2019, cbs brought the high-profile S/4 project at the well-known heating technology manufacturer Viessmann to a successful conclusion. The largest global S/4 project in the manufacturing industry to date.
“With this project, Schott has now set the next lighthouse in the international SAP market. For many companies planning something similar, this changeover can provide valuable insights. We look forward to sharing these with the community in the new year,” explains cbs Managing Director Scheel.
