ENVIRONMENTAL

cbs is committed to environmental and climate protection and has been climate-neutral since 2023. As a company, we set ourselves measurable goals and take measures to optimize our carbon footprint.

TREES TO BREATH - MISSION 15,000

Trees are essential for the climate. That's why our "Trees to breathe" tree planting project in Meschede has now entered its second round. After 5,100 trees in 2022, we planned to plant 10,000 trees this year with #mission10000. With a highly motivated team and foresters, we reached our goal in the evening. In the end, there were 10,030 trees, mainly Douglas firs, coastal firs, larches and red oaks.

ENERGY-EFFICIENT CBS BUILDINGS

Our headquarters in Heidelberg were planned with maximum energy efficiency in mind. We achieve this through optimal thermal insulation and photovoltaic systems, among other things. We also consciously choose sustainably designed buildings that are as energy-efficient as possible for the offices of our branches.

THE WILDLIFE PARK BEEKEEPERS

Bees are essential for our agriculture, pollinating 80% of crops. cbs supports the preservation of the honey bee through the beekeeping association “The Wildlife Park Beekeepers" by guaranteeing an annual purchase of 300 kg of honey, which ensures planning security for members.​

E-MOBILITÄT​
E-MOBILITY

We promote electromobility through charging stations at the workplace and use company-owned electric vehicles. Critically reviewing air travel also makes a significant contribution to reducing our overall emissions. A conscious approach to mobility options is therefore a further step for us towards environmentally friendly corporate practices.

cbs is officially a climate-neutral company

A climate-neutral company means that we have recorded our greenhouse gas emissions, are continuously reducing them and have offset the remaining emissions through climate protection projects. This has enabled us ClimatePartner now officially awarded a certificate and the “climate-neutral company” label
confirmed. ​

With the projects we support, we also promote the achievement of global sustainability goals, such as combating poverty and improving living conditions in emerging and developing countries. As a company, we are proud to set a good example on the topic of climate protection. Ultimately, it all comes down to the individual behavior of each and every one of us.

focused reduction measures​​

Record/Report

Since 2020, we have regularly calculated our environmental performance via a certified third-party provider in accordance with the GHG protocol. This allows us to continuously measure our progress and inform our stakeholders. In 2021, we had a CCF of ZAHL.

Improve

Our aim is to reduce our ecological footprint as much as possible so that only the unavoidable emissions remain.​

Compared to the base year 2019, we are aiming for the following reduction targets by 2024:​

  • Scope 1: 5% ​
  • Scope 2: 10%​
  • Scope 3: 20%​

To achieve these goals, we regularly sensitize our employees, because we can only do it together.

Compensate

We offset the remaining emissions by supporting quality-checked climate protection projects that contribute to our SDG targets.

We disclose our emissions and offsets openly and reliably and are constantly working to become more sustainable. We have been climate-neutral through offsetting since 2023.

The health, well-being and individual development of our employees are our top priority. Our corporate culture, the Power of Orange, and a strong cultural fit form the foundation for this. This enables our motivated team to work together to realize challenging projects to the highest level of customer satisfaction, while an active exchange of knowledge continuously promotes our employees.

KIDS.ONE – German Child Protection Association

We have been involved in the “Kids.ONE” project with the German Child Protection Association at the cbs locations in Heidelberg, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Munich, Freiburg, Bautzen and Raunheim since 2017. With Kids.ONE, we want to fulfill our obligation to promote the next generation and live up to our social responsibility.

A community of people of different ages and diverse backgrounds who form a strong unit. We actively embrace the new diversity – from respectful interaction and flexible working hours to individual part-time working arrangements and the option to work from home. Our career paths are diverse and break with traditional patterns so that everyone has the opportunity to develop and take on responsibility.

1.FC MÜHLHAUSEN: Child and youth development
As the main sponsor of 1. FC-Mühlhausen, we support young people in their sporting development. We strengthen mutual understanding through joint training sessions and celebrations with employees. At the annual cbs Summer Camp, FC Mühlhausen invites all cbs employees and their families to a day full of sport and fun.

During the holiday season, cbs America invited its employees, partners, customers, and community members to support local children battling serious illnesses. Thanks to their tremendous efforts and boundless kindness, a total of $11,400 was raised for life-changing wishes.

LAPTOP DONATION
We replace our work laptops in a 4-year cycle. However, as the laptops can be used for many years longer, we donate them to schools or to the Kinderschutzbund. In 2021, we donated 1-6 laptops to each local association that also received a Kids.ONE donation. In 2020, the Hugo-Eckener School in Friedrichshafen (Germany) received 69 laptops from us.

DONATION DRIVE MALAYSIA

A donation drive was organized to gather various products, including clothing, electrical items, furniture, books, toys, and household items. The event spanned one month, and the collected donations were subsequently handed over to The Salvation Army, serving as an intermediary to distribute the contributions to various institutions.

Including Ipoh Children Homes, Ipoh Boys Homes, Penang Children Home, Perak Home for the Aged, Kuching Children Homes, Kuching Boys Homes, Batang Melaka Kindergarten, Kuala Lumpur Kindergarten, RedShield Industries Malaysia, Hopehaven Special Needs Care Centre, and Emergency Relief.

We promote art and culture as an official partner of the Heidelberg Mannheim International Film Festival. The festival presents films worldwide in original languages outside the mainstream. Just like cbs, the focus here is on promoting young talent, innovation and quality. Our employees also take the opportunity to watch films together and exchange ideas.

SOUP KITCHEN SINGAPORE - WILLING HEARTS
Our team in Singapore volunteered at Willing Hearts, a local charity that operates a soup kitchen. Willing Hears prepares, cooks, and distributes approximately 7,000 meals daily to over 70 locations for people in need. We are proud of the cbs mooncake packing team and the process improvement in production it developed.

LAPTOP DONATION MALAYSIA
In partnership with the German Embassy in Malaysia, the APAC CSR team organized a laptop donation drive, which is a remarkable step towards promoting education and empowerment. Laptops and monitors were donated to the Educare Center, offering valuable resources to refugees from Myanmar.

Health is the most important asset and an essential basis for performance and well-being. At cbs, we strengthen the physical and mental health of our employees through a wide range of sports activities, from yoga and fitness boxing to discounted fitness options.

We are actively involved in promoting art and culture as part of our CSR initiative. Through targeted partnerships and events, such as being an official partner of the Heidelberg Mannheim International Film Festival (IFFMH), we support artists and contribute to cultural diversity in the community. ​

Occupational health and safety and occupational health management create the necessary framework conditions for us to ensure that work is safe and healthy.
