Projects, and in particular SAP Projects often show the tendency of taking a little longer then anticipated in the first SOW talks. Often project teams try to save time by short cutting the Training and Testing phases. Is the same Project Team members that afterwards, if asked for feedback, would remorsefully agree that shortening testing is not a good idea. Once the testing phase is reached, the work of the months before is being under test – from the system itself, to data, to roles and authorization concepts and the knowledge and understanding of the Key User.
The Test Manager is providing the framework for these activities, ensuring a feasible scope across the participants, the coverage of all identified functionalities, developments, gaps and processes as well as the documentation for later revisits due to audits, defect fixing or training material creation.
To be as efficient and resourceful as possible the test management approach needs to be adjusted to the project type and the requirements of the project. If done in a smart way, testing will save your project and many more.
